I love creating cards and gifts with my computer because you can save a ton of money and make something special.  But sometimes I get stuck for ideas.

Check out the latest collection of free templates from Avery.   Avery has all kinds of downloadable templates for everything from business cards to t-shirt transfers and scrapbooking embellishments.

I spent quite a bit of time exploring this site, and I see all sorts of potential for creating frugal special birthday party decorations, thank you gifts, wedding favors, and fund-raising promotions.

The site even has reviews of the projects so you can get an idea of whether a project is right for you.

Many of the projects are designed with Avery products in mind.  You can often find great deals on Avery products at your favorite office discount store, or dig around in your craft stash and improvise.

Don't forget to sign up for Avery's mailing list.  I get notices for exclusive Avery freebies in my inbox all of the time!

If you're looking for away to help your child stay on top of his/her chores, you should check out MyJobChart.

A friend of mine is using MyJobChart with her middle-school age boys and they are loving it.  She said it's really been a useful tool for motivating her kids to get things done.

Here's how it works.   You set up a free account at MyJob Chart and create log-ins for you and your kids.  Then you assign jobs you want each child to do and come up with rewards.

You assign each job a points value.  As your child completes their chores, they log it in their account.  They can then turn those points in for rewards that you set.  Ideas for rewards could be everything from staying up late, to skipping a chore, to money or a special treat.

This is a really easy program to use with lots of ways to customize it for your family.  Our boys are too young for this, but when they're able to read and use the computer, you can bet we'll definitely give MyJobChart a try.

Celebrate Arbor Day with a free tree at McDonald's.

McDonald's Minnesota Forest Industries and KARE 11 have teamed up to give away 55,000 free seedlings on Arbor Day, Friday, April 30.

Red Pine seedlings – the Minnesota state tree – will be available at more than 220 participating McDonald’s in Minnesota, while supplies last. No purchase is necessary.

In honor of National Scrapbooking Day, Archiver's is celebrating all weekend with freebies.

Home Depot will be hosting a free Kids Workshop Saturday, May 1 between 9 a.m. and noon at all of its stores.

At this workshop your child will be able to make an adorable picket fence planter.  This would make a lovely Mother's Day gift for Mom or Grandma. (hint, hint!)

The workshops are geared toward children ages 5-12. The goal is to teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety while building confidence, and of course, having fun!

Each child receives a free project kit, kid-sized orange apron, and, upon completion of their project, an achievement pin.

Kids in Grades 1-6 can get a free book from Barnes and Noble when they participate in the Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Program.

Here's how it works:

• Read any eight books this summer and record them in your Barnes and Noble Passport. Be sure to document the location you visit in each book.
